More about this Park

Queen Elizabeth National Park covers approximately 1,978 square kilometers and is known for its remarkable biodiversity. The park’s diverse habitats support a wide range of wildlife, making it a prime location for game drives and other safari activities. The open savannah plains are home to large herds of buffalo, Uganda kob, and other antelope species, while the acacia woodlands and forests provide refuge for elephants, lions, and leopards.

The Kazinga Channel, a 32-kilometer-long waterway connecting Lake Edward and Lake George, is a major attraction within the park. A boat cruise on the channel offers excellent opportunities to observe hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of water birds, including pelicans, cormorants, and fish eagles. The channel’s shores are also frequented by elephants and buffaloes, coming to drink and graze.

Within the park’s boundaries lies the Kyambura Gorge, a dramatic ravine covered in dense tropical forest. This gorge is home to a habituated chimpanzee community, offering visitors the chance to experience chimpanzee tracking. The gorge also supports other primates, such as red-tailed monkeys and black-and-white colobus monkeys.

Queen Elizabeth National Park is also a birdwatcher’s paradise, with over 600 recorded bird species. The varied habitats, from lakeshores to forests and savannahs, provide ideal conditions for a wide range of avian life.

Visitors can enjoy a range of activities, including game drives in open-roof vehicles, boat cruises on the Kazinga Channel, chimpanzee tracking in Kyambura Gorge, and guided nature walks. The park’s diverse landscapes and abundant wildlife ensure a memorable safari experience.
