Your Rwandan adventure begins upon arrival at Kanombe International Airport in Kigali, where you will be met by your designated driver-guide. Following a brief opportunity to freshen up in Kigali, you’ll embark on a picturesque two to three-hour drive to Volcanoes National Park, situated near Ruhengeri. This park serves as a vital sanctuary for the critically endangered mountain gorilla. The journey offers opportunities to discover local attractions and participate in optional activities, such as canoeing on the Mukungwa River or visiting the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village (formerly the ex-poachers’ project).
The day commences at 7:00 am with a transfer to the park’s administrative center, where you will receive a pre-trek briefing from park rangers and be equipped with the necessary tracking equipment and a packed lunch. You will then venture into the forest to begin the gorilla tracking experience. The duration of the trek can vary from three to eight hours, depending on the gorillas’ location. Spending an hour observing these remarkable primates in their natural environment offers an exceptional wildlife encounter. Following the trek, your driver will arrange your transfer to either your hotel or Kigali International Airport for your onward travel.
